Autonomous cars to be in production by 202107/09/2016
BMW have partnered with technology giant Intel and computer vision leader Mobileye to make progress in achieving a future of self-driving vehicles by 2021. The motive behind the collaboration of competencies is to effectively develop technologies allowing drivers to take their hands, eyes and mind off the steering wheel so that time in the car can be better spent on leisure or work.
Mobileye is poised to contribute expertise in sensing, localisation and driver policy. Intel brings reputation in the way of their comprehensive portfolio of technology in particular their in-vehicle and cloud computing software to further compliment.
Once finally established, the BMW iNEXT concept model will be the “foundation for BMW Group’s autonomous driving strategy and sets the basis for fleets of fully autonomous vehicles”. In the long term, BMW, Intel, and Mobileye aim to make the technology readily available for multiple car manufacturers in addition to other industries who are also likely to benefit.
